We are regularly asked what type of board we recommend for a beginner: Longboard or a Mini-Log? Longboards (9’0” and above) are great because their length, width, and thickness make them easy to paddle and catch waves. Yet longboards can create hidden problems. All the extra foam and fiberglass can make them heavy and difficult to carry. Just getting your longboard to the beach may require you to use surf racks because the longboard may not fit in your car. Since the average household ceiling is 8’0” tall, any longboard taller than 8’0” can be difficult to store. Smaller longboards…

Our tickets were already paid for before the scaffolding made it’s first appearance on the sand of South-side Huntington Beach. Over 500,000 people flock to participate in the excitement of Huntington Beach’s US Open of Surfing. A very active Southeast Pacific attracts us back to our favorite spots in Central America. We went for the solid swell, 82 degree water, off shore winds, small crowds, empty point breaks; and it turned out to be much better than expected.

While chess, tug of war, and Frisbee, among others, didn’t make the cut, surfing finally did. This decision comes after two decades of proposals of adding surfing to the Olympics. Proponents of adding surfing to the Olympics point to the multi billion-dollar dollar global surfing industry, with an estimated 35 million people riding waves around the world. They argue surfing has plunged into mainstream society all over the globe. Why not give the thousands of talented young surfers…

The front third of the board is very flat (speed), while the rest of the board transitions from a single to double concave with vee out the tail (loose). The rails…
